Styles and thickness of vinyl siding
Deciding on a style and color of vinyl siding can drastically impact the curb appeal and value of your home. There are a few things to think about when making this big decision, including: color, texture, width of siding, and possible insulation under the siding.
Styles of siding: traditional lap double 4″, double 5″, single lap 6″, 7″and 8″, triple 3″, board and batten, cedar shake, traditional shake, hand-split shake, half-round (scalloped), shingle style, vertical, Dutch lap, shiplap, beaded seam, log style, wood grain and smooth finish.
The American Society of Testing and Materials requires vinyl siding be a minimum of .035 thick.
Here are some general vinyl siding thicknesses:
Builders grade – .040
Thin residential grade – .042
Standard residential grade – .044
Very thick grade – .046
Premium grade – .052 and above
